Forward or backward?
When you watch my video, you'll notice: Sometimes I'm moving toward an object, and sometimes I'm moving away from it.
It's no accident! My sensors listen very carefully to the Beat of music. I try to set the changes of direction so that they fit the beat perfectly.
But sometimes you have a different creative vision. Would you like to “invite” the viewer into the room or give them a last look as they leave? Here I'll tell you how to steer the direction.
The basics: Forward or backward?
In the editing menu, you'll find the option “Direction of movement”.

1. Forward (The Invitation)
That is the standard. The camera moves into the image.
- The effect: “Come on in!” or “Take a closer look.”
- When to use Perfect for entering a room, heading for a highlight (such as the fireplace), or walking through a door.
2. Backwards (The “Reveal” effect)
The camera retreats from the subject.
- The effect: The picture opens. We first see a detail and then more and more of the room.
- When to use Ideal for revealing the whole house in its splendor or leaving a room before moving on to the next room.
Marton's professional tips for the perfect “flow”
This is the most important tip for a pleasant video: Watch the river!
Imagine yourself walking through a house: Two steps forward, two steps back, two steps back. That seems extremely restless and hectic, doesn't it? That's exactly what happens when you're constantly changing direction in the video.
❌ Please don't:
Clip 1: Forward ➡️ Clip 2: Backward ➡️ Clip 3: Forward ➡️ Clip 4: Backward.
- The result: The spectator is “shaken up.” There is no peace.
✅ Do it this way:
Try to find a direction for several clips in one go to maintain.
- example: Show 3 clips in a row, all Forward run. This draws the viewer ever deeper into the property.
- Then — as a conscious accent — you can make several clips Backwards install.
The perfect moment to switch: The beatdrop!
But there is one brilliant exception: The beatdrop! When the music a zenith Reached (the bass starts or the chorus starts), this is the perfect moment for a change of direction.
- The effect: The music “Boom” is when you switch from forward to backward. This creates goosebumps and looks extremely dynamic!
Good to know: Change in real time!
The best thing for last: Changing the direction of movement is a piece of cake for me.
